OUR HISTORY
Our history begins when Juan Ríos, the current owner of Barón Balché, in 1997 decides to restore a family property that spanned 32 hectares and its adjacent, abandoned vineyards. From humble beginnings that involved elaboration of nonprofit, homemade wine, Mr. Ríos has now embarked upon a new experience in which he surrounds himself by wine connoisseurs and knowledge alike.
The construction of the cellar begins in 200 and the first five labels make their debut one year later: Zinfandel, Reserva Especial, Double Blanc, Grenache and Tempranillo. likewise, the production of Premium wines commences in 2005, for them to be present on shelve in 2008.
-
Wine production increased as time went by, with a production of 20,000 crates and the following selection available: 18 labels, 14 red wines, 3 white wines and a clarette.
A restaurant was built soon afterwards due to constant demand from their clientele.
Barón Balché plan to increase their production to 50,000 crates and to erect a hotel on their property in the future.
The name Barón Balché pays tribute to Maya culture. The word “balché” was used to refer to a tree cherished by the Maya peoples for its fruit, a fruit used to make a fermented drink they served to high-ranking officials. On the other hand, ”barón” (Spanish for “Baron”) is a title of honor.GROWING TOGETHER
